THE NEGRO PASSION PLAY

BROWNBOX THEATRE Invites Seattle to Experience THE NEGRO PASSION PLAY by Kathya Alexander Juneteenth Weekend / June 17, 18 and 19, 2022

Note, the play contains some adult content and language.

TNPP is an experience, immersing the audience in a Biblically inspired re- telling of a traditional passion play, within the context of the Civil Rights Movement and Jim Crow South. Audiences will be interactive, including experiencing segregation and desegregation, breaking bread with Immanuel and The Disciples at the Last Supper, singing, dancing, marching, and call-and-response.

THE NEGRO PASSION PLAY (TNPP) is written by Kathya Alexander and conceived & directed by Tyrone Brown, co-founders and co-artistic directors of Brownbox Theatre, a company dedicated to the creation, development, and production of re-imagined Black theatre.

The creative team includes Kenneth Shook (assistant director), Michael Owcharuk (music coordinator), Karabo Kuape (costume designer), Burton Yuen (set designer), Brendon Orth-Sheridan (lighting and sound designer), John Clark (prop master and set builder), Rena Robinson-Steiner (guest choreographer), Greg Hansen (dance assistant), Robin Campbell and Justice Beitzel (dance and movement coordinators) and Gavin Sakae McLean (fight choreographer).
